Cambodia Qualifying Youth with Disabilities for Global IT Challenge

PHNOM PENH: The General Secretariat of the Council for the Action of Persons with Disabilities organized a national information technology (IT) competition for young people with disabilities on July 15. The council will select four winners to compete in the Global IT Challenge (GITC) held in the United Arab Emirates and online on October 24-29, 2023.

The exam was open to young people with disabilities from Lavalla primary school, the National Institute of Special Education, Pour un Sourire d’Enfant (PSE), ExceedOnline Cambodia and community youth, who were able to take the test in-person and online.

Candidates who passed the exam from July 15 will go on to compete in the semi-finals of the international competition on July 25-26. The four top scorers will be chosen to represent Cambodia in person at the competition in Abu Dhabi, while those with lower scores will be able to participate in the online competition.

The GITC for youth with disabilities is meant to strengthen the ICT capacity of young people with disabilities, lay the foundation for social progress, and raise awareness of digital accessibility for young people with disabilities. By 2024, it will be developed into a more sustainable competition, strengthening the credibility of the internationally renowned competition and the independence of the participating countries.
